1992. I’m studying to be an EMT, which involves going into Birmingham 3 nights a week. I’ve developed the habit of going to a particular fast food restaurant before class and placing a particular order. Through the laws of improbability that govern my life, I usually end up with the same cashier.
The cashier that gets very nervous about the fact that I order the same meal every time, and every time it comes out $6.66. I didn’t even notice it until she started getting nervous.
After a few repetitions of this, I decide to take mercy on her. I look her dead in the eye and say, “Okay, I’m breaking the curse. This time I’m going to order something different.” I pick something that’s slightly cheaper. She relaxes visibly, and is back to the fully cheerful professional cashier she was before this madman started torturing her with a regular satanic order. And she cheerfully says “Would you like a slice of pie with that?” And I say “sure.”
That brought the total up to $6.66.
I paid, took my food, and never went back to that place again.
Ladybug likes to climb, like a LOT! I wasn’t sure how to best scratch that itch for her without spending money I don’t have at the moment. Well my kids no longer play with these giant legos, so now they’re Buggy’s legos. 🤣
I’ve got enough I can replace the structure with a new one while I sanitize the old blocks and give her new things to climb and explore. She seems happy. Though I’m starting to think I should have gotten her a larger PVC tank. The girl likes her space. 🤷🏻♀️
My favourite thing about this is, he didn’t even have to call him ‘Captain’ he could have used the screen-name but he was SO MARRIED TO THE IMMERSION that he DID.
Passenger: CAPTAIIIIN!!!

The Chinese giant salamander is one of the largest salamanders and one of the largest amphibians in the world. It is fully aquatic and is endemic to rocky mountain streams and lakes in the Yangtze river basin of central China.
The Chinese giant salamander is considered to be a “living fossil”. Although protected under Chinese laws, its population has faced severe declined over the last 70 years and is currently (2022) listed as threatened. There are evidence indicating that the Chinese giant salamander may be composed of at least five cryptic species, further compounding each individual species’ endangerment.
